Patricia McManus: Carrying On Her Husband's Legacy

Patricia McManus says she can’t stop volunteering at SFBFS because there are still hungry kids out there.

Now in her mid-80s, she began volunteering at the food bank back in 1988 with her husband George and their Catholic church group. The couple would attend Mass on Sunday morning and then head to our organization to prepare sandwiches and distribute meals. After George passed away in 2004, our organization was a bright spot in her life. She carries on George’s legacy of generosity today by volunteering multiple days a week, every week.

“Friends ask why I come here when I could be going to a movie or elsewhere. It’s because there’s a child who’s hungry or a mother who needs help feeding her child.”
