As the largest nonprofit provider of basic human needs in Sacramento County, we take our mission one step further by offering family support services that allow people who seek support to shape their best tomorrow. We are a place for hope and prosperity, a place where women and men, children and elders, are offered the tools they may need—food, diapers, utility assistance, legal services or just plain kindness—as they move toward a path of financial independence and self-sufficiency.
In 2022, SFBFS and our Partner Agencies distributed 34.3 million pounds of food and served an average of 240,843 people every month. Our quality groceries come from a variety of sources, including donations from local grocery stores, regional farms and the community.
Read the stories of the incredible people who inspire our work. From our CalFresh Program manager Lorena to 80-year-old volunteer Pat, these are the people who motivate us to create change in Sacramento County.
She was a newlywed in a new country. And Lorena will tell you, it was really hard.
His smile is as big as anyone else’s you will meet (except for those of his kids).
Pat says she can’t stop volunteering because there are still hungry kids out there.
Current partnerships with more than 120 partner agencies allow us to distribute food to individuals and families throughout Sacramento County. Explore the map to find a food distribution center near you.
